What a place!. I travel to Roanoke a lot and everytime I go through I stop there to eat. It's a tradition! I have always had great Service even when they are very busy. The owner is ALWAYS present and attentive to his customers. The Food is phenominal! The Bar is great. Being someone that travels in the USA and abroad a lot, I rank this family restaurant one of the best. I stopped in the other night, met Marty the owner, very impressed with his dedication and the whole vibe of the restaurant. I never thought I would find a place like this in Roanoke and not to mention a strip mall! GREAT JOB!

Worst experience ever. We went there to celebrate the new year with several friends starting 7pm, after 2 hours we were asked to leave to free up the tables for more guests. Excuse me?

The newspaper ad said the reservation were for 7pm to midnight and the "owner" couldn't explain where this he pulled out this 2 hour time limit from.

Never mind that hats and party favors were also advertised in the paper. They were however nowhere to be seen.

We will never set foot in this place again and will make sure to always recommend against it. Thanks for ruining what was supposed to be a great night.

Extensive menu selection. Montano's is one of the better restaurants in Roanoke. It has an extensive menu selection from Italian, Greek and various ethnic selections. The food is above average, but the service can be slow sometimes, usually because of the crowded bar side. They have a good selection of draft beers and decent wine list. Weekends can be crowded and smoky.

Montano's is a worthy visit.. (2/06) Every time I have been to Montanos (mid-week), the place was very busy. Despite the busy feel, I have never had to wait for a table. Mr. Montano greeted on arrival and checked on us during the meal.

The restaurant has a very, very extensive beer offering. There is such a variety, that they allowed me to go to the case to choose a beer.

I dont know why the Montanos is classed as Italian. Each item on the menu has a flag signifying the country most closely associated with dish. Also, the menu is very extensive. So, get ready to travel the world! I had the bean soup, which has pureed black beans, and was very good. The bread garnish was very good too. I go for the seafood - the sea bass is very good as is the grilled tuna salad. Highly recommended.

wonderful. I totally disagree with the other reviews. My wife and I have eaten at Montano's several times since moving to Rocky Mount 3 years ago. In my opinion the BBQ shrimp is absolutely wonderful. The taste rivals the same dish from New Orleans. In my opinion Montano's is one of the top places for international foods.

It's just OK. I heard that this restaurant was worth checking out in the Roanoke area. Unfortunately my expectations weren't met.

The potato feta soup was decent...

However the overstacked turkey sandwich was utterly dry. The service was mediocre (sat outside during brunch) and the server barely came by to perform basic beverage refills, status inquiries, and to provide the check.

Overall... it's a good place if you're looking for an average meal with added price. Not really great to take a date.

Overhyped. After seeing all the "Best of Roanoke" awards on the wall, I was pretty excited to try the food. Unfortunately, the meal left my entire table wondering if someone had switched restaurant names on the award plaques.

Come on folks, this is dining in the back room of a fully functional deli. The level of waitstaff snobbery was totally inappropriate for the dining experience.

Potato-feta soup was watery and flavorless, the lasagna was cold in the middle and the bread was at least a day old. To top it off, when we inquired about desserts that were listed on the menu, we were told to get up from our seats and look in the deli for available sweets as the waitress didn't know what was still left.

At least the owner was more helpful when we sent a letter about the experience, sending a coupon good for another visit.
