Roanoke >Franks Pizza & Subs
About every year and a half, I forget how pathetic this place is and make the mistake of wasting my hard earned money. My daughter and I were shopping nearby and were STARVING and craving pizza. Frank's was the closest place. We both ordered pizza by the slice. My daughter ordered cheese and I ordered the "special". The "special" consisted of previously baked pepperoni pizza which was then topped with new toppings and hardly melted, poor quality cheese. (See attached picture. This was taken AFTER I sent it back to further melt the seemingly synthetic cheese topping). The previously-baked, underlying pizza could not have been baked any less than 4 hours ago as evidenced by how hard (not crusty- HARD) the crust and original cheese was. Same with my daughter's cheese pizza. She could only eat about halfway up the slice before it became too tough for her to eat any more. She said it tasted like the pizza at her elementary school. We did order a house salad which was fresh. It was served with a packette of dressing which looked pretty beat up, but the dressing itself tasted o.k. for packaged dressing. Our waitress did check in to see if "everything was o.k.". Why didn't I complain then, you might ask? 1. We didn't have time to re-order. 2. My daughter BEGGED me not to complain because it would embarrass her (she is at that age). But to top it all off, when we went to pay, the cashier asked how everything was and I just HAD to ask when the previously baked pizza had actually been baked and the cashier proceeded to become rude to me. She said that they make the "slices" fresh and that they couldn't have been over 15 minutes old. I invited her to go to our table which had not yet been bussed to look at the mostly uneaten pizza for herself and to my astonishment, she called over another staff to "prove me wrong" and to chastise me for not saying something sooner. Not feeling like having to explain myself to her, I smiled, paid my $10.50 and silently vowed to NEVER waste my hard-earned money there again and vowed to warn every one I can about this terrible place. Incidentally, as she was telling me how they never re-warm pizza to serve, I watched the kitchen staff put a whole cheese pizza in the oven which had clearly already been baked (cheese not white and crust toasted). Frank's on Franklin (near the new Kohl's) is an embarrassment to Roanoke!
Franks Pizza & Subs Williamson Rd. The food is bland and over cooked. I have tried the restaurant three times, to give the benefit of doubt. Every time we have eaten there the food was below expiation. I believe in trying a restaurant more then once, however; I will never eat there again, and I would not recommend the restaurant to anyone. The place has a nice ambiance, and decor, however the food is is poor.
Dont Eat At Frank's Pizza unless youre a liar.
Myself as well as my other colleages thought it would be nice to order from Franks Pizza new location on Williamson Rd In Roanoke, Va. When attempting to place the order by phone we thought it would be a good idea to have a menu faxed to us to make it easier for people (8) to decide. Unfortunately they could not fax us a menu or have one available online for this location. No problem big problem right?
With only 3 people available to order, we thought it would be a great chance to just order a pizza. We drove to Franks and placed our order for a large pizza on our lunch break. We were told 15 minutes before it would be ready.
After 30 minutes of waiting we asked if the pizza was ready. We were told that it had either not been made or had been given to someone else! Our lunch break was lmost over, and now without what we had ordered so we had to leave.\
I called Franks when we had returned to work and had a minute to talk. I was greeted by a woman who claimed to be the owner. After telling her my concerns, she informed me that this had not happened and i was lying. WOW!!!!
How can this place be in business? New York Pizza in Vinton, Va puts out a much better product and and you wont be called a liar!
High school cafeteria pizza.. Blah..
Soggy (I suppose "marinated"..) green peppers, average crust, and CANNED mushrooms.
How on earth was this place voted the "best pizza in Salem" when they use cheap, tin-tasting mushrooms?
Frank's Pizza promotes itself as an authentic Italian pizzaria, but if the owner thinks canned mushrooms belong on any pizza outside of a High school cafeteria.. he needs to choose another profession
Fail. Fail. Fail...
Best Crust in Roanoke. I love good pizza, being Italian, and Frank's is the best this little city has to offer (other than the restaurants that do the wood oven thing). I love their sauce and crust. Too bad about the canned mushrooms --yuck. I love fresh mushrooms on a pizza. Anyway, I've tried the Franks in Vinton and it is no where near the same crust. What's up with that?
Good Pizza With Some Flaws.
Good food overall, however I think I could have scaled cig. nicotine off of the edges of the furniture the last time I ate there, which will be the last unless smoking is banned there.
People have a right to smoke, however if they can't wait long enough to order and be served and eat a meal without smoking then they are in BAD SHAPE. I use to smoke and now I realize how sad this really is!
This single thing will deter me from going back to this otherwise great place to eat!!! Make everyone including your employees give it up and I'll be back and bring others with me.
You walk out smelling like stale cigarettes....too small to have a smoking section!.
Frank's is located in the WalMart shopping strip on 220.
It's a generically decorated pizza joint with booths and table seating. The dough is GREAT, crusty and light with enough flavor as to not overwhelm the pizza, the sauce/cheese are palatable, but not too exciting. Service was OK. The main problem with Frank's is that it is so small and there is a smoking section. The restaurant is way too cramped to be able to handle this adequately. My friend and I (nonsmokers) walked out of there reaking of stale cigarette smoke. I wouldn't recommend it for ANYONE who finds the smell of smoke offensive, and won't return unless they make it nonsmoking.
great service..aweful pizza. ok..so i have heard the hype..supposed to be the best pizza in roanoke..toppings were great..as was the sauce..and the service is wonderful..however.. the crust wasnt cooked all the way..soft and just not right...this is my first time posting here..however...pizza is my thing..i know pizza..i may give them one more shot..but i wouldnt recomend it.
Surprise - pretty good pizza!. On the bad side - the place is always packed with chain-smokers. We always pick up the pizza and leave because the smell makes me sick. Also, the mushrooms are canned mushrooms. I personally like them, my husband doesn't. On the good side - the crust is just right, not too thick, not too thin and perfectly crunchy. Same with the sauce. Also, they put on a lot of cheese and the pizza is always ready in 10 minutes. I say go for it.
Quaint pizza joint. Frank's pizza is a standard strip mall pizza joint near Wal-Mart off Rte. 220. The menu is standard pizza joint menu, with pizzas, sandwiches and salads. The food is average and the decor is ok. There is nothing here that stands out, but provides an average pizza experience for the crowd.
