My 16-year-old son,Jerame, was run over by a car last year while walking across the street in Lynchburg, Va. He was air lifted to Roanoke Memorial and began a long fight for his life....He was in the hospital for months, had his skull taken off to relieve the pressure in his head, had part of his brain removed, had a stroke, and was in an induced comma for quite a while....I believe God placed him in that hospital for a reason. The staff of nurses and all the doctors treated my son as if he was their own. Not only did they use their brains to help my son, I truly feel that they used their hearts. I stayed with him night and day and I saw how they treated him. I was so impressed with the way they were. My son is a miracle....he has gone through rehab and is "98%" who he was before. Even the doctors say he is a miracle to be in as good a shape as he is. I do know that anything is possible with God, and I know my son had God with him that night. When we asked him who was with him the night of the accident, he replied that Jesus was with him...."he was holding my hand" was my sons reply. I also know that God gave these great doctors the intelligence to learn the life saving techniques that they use everyday to save people just like my son. So it is to God that I give my thanks and it is also to all the people at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, NTICU, who have dedicated their lives and hearts to doing such a wonderful job. Thank you for your part in saving my sons life. And I must say a Special Thank You to Dr. Lisa Apfel who performed the surgeries for my son and gave him excellent care for the past year. She is a very special Lady with a beautiful heart. My family and my son Thank You All! Julie Grubbs and family

My father was direct admitted to the diolysis floor (7th floor). I had to go and get his identification bracelet from the nurses station 3 hours after he had been in his private room. Water was asked for on 5 different occasions before I had to go retrieve it from the nurses station. The breathing therapist took 5 hours to finally come to the room after she was asked to come up. It took many times asking to get a social worker to come to his room in order to set up diolysis at our local center. To top it off.......In 8 days after being admitted......He has seen a doctor for a total of about 15 minutes. The time that a doctor was talking to him they had no bedside manners and were very insensitive to him. My mother, who has been a nurse for 25 years, said this is the worst hospital she has ever seen. Wake Forest Baptist Hospital is 100 times better in all areas. I really do not know how they stay in business and how insurance companies like mine can send them the thousands of dollars they bill their patients.

Pros: Emergency department

Cons: Nurses and Doctors
