Japenese restaurant? Not hardly. There are several fine choice for Japenese food in Roanoke; however, Kobe is not one of them.

So part of eating at a Japenese restaurant is the "show", right? You get to sit and watch while the cook prepares your food right in front of you. But how much fun is it when the person cooking your food acts like a robot? He doesn't do the volcano, he doesn't do the cho cho train, he merely throws your food on the grill, cooks it and serves it, then he leaves. Now IF thre food was good you could overlook the show, but that just isnt the case. You get all of your rice and it is eaten before your vegs come and then they are gone before you get your meat. A good Japense chef can time his cooking so that the rice, veggies, meat over lap each other a little.

Oh and if you are a fan of the rice and veggies don't even bother paying more and ordering the "extra" rice or "extra" veggies. Even though you paid extra for extra rice and veggies you will get the same as everyone else who didn't request and pay for extra rice and veggies.

Our very first visit to Kobe a year ago was okay but our four visits since them have been awful. Everyone can have a bad night but when you decide to go back and give a place another try and the service and the food is still bad then that is something completely different.

As to the prices... We went there and ordered two adult entrees (one terriyaki chicken and one terriyaki steak), one extra order of rice and one extra order of veggies, two kids plates (one shrimp, one chicken) and one adult soda, one water and two kids soda and our bill was just over $80.00. Since most of the food wasn't edible we ended up stopping at Wendys to order some cheeseburgers and chicken nuggets.

We eat out Japenese about once a week and Kobe has been removed from our list, we will NOT ever go back there and we would NOT recommend you go there either.

Awesome Food and Service. Kobe was an incredible experience, the waitresses were helpful and the food was incredible. The chef who cooked are food was a bit quieter than most Japaneses hibachi's but other than that all way well. The prices were very reasonable and the Fillet Mignon was to die for. Service impeccable decent show. Make sure to get reservations because if not you may be waiting for a while.
