Roanoke >419 West
Really disappointed. We were expecting more than we got. The place looks great - upscale and casual. Our first clue was that we could get seated right away on a Saturday night. The food was average at best - the salmon on his salad was smaller than the container the dressing came in. The turkey on my salad was right out of the container from the grocery store shelf. We had bread plates but got no bread. Other tables got their bread half way through the meal. Service was poor - the waiter didn’t tell us about the specials, couldn’t give us details on some of the items on the menu and checked on us only to bring us the check. We won't be back.
419 is your local neighborhood bar and grill!!.
I think that 419 is like the neighborhood bar and grill that every body likes to hang out. I find the establishment one of my very favorites. It starts with the wait staff. In the bar area, I find that these people have been with 419 longer than ther people in the food area. The bar staff is the best. Friendly, glad to see you, welcome you, and cater to your every need. Prices during happy hour are reasonable and the crowd is favorable to the over 30 age group.
The food overall is better than most in its price range. I find everything to be presented first class with a great taste. I recommend the wedge salad, and the corn crab chowder with every meal.
Do yourself a favor and check the place out. From the food, owners, managers, wait staff, cook staff; all is great.
Amazing Food and Atmosphere but i think the waitstaff needs alot of work!!!!1. Well this is the third time I have been to 419 West, and every time I go I am amazed by the food and plate presentation. The restaurant itself is beautiful, hard wood and black leather seating and a gorgeous lighting in the shape of a dome.It has an open kitchen, which to me is great ..you feel as if your on one of those cooking shows on food network. The only thing that could be better is if the waitstaff could keep up with the high class style of this restaurant, the first time I was there i had a male server who was very good when he was around it was just finding him when you needed him,but compared to the next two he was great lol.The next time we had a tall blonde girl by the name of Ginger (I remebered her name so i could make sure i didnt have her again)she was polite in a weird way as if she were just trying to "get it over with" she had obviously just finished a cigarette because she reaked of smoke. She decided for us that we werent having desert and dropped off our check in a hurry I felt as if i were an inconvenience to her. This last time our poor server was LeeAnn I think that was her name she came to the table and right away apologized she said she had a cold and wasnt feeling well, I thought should we ask for someone else because i dont want to get sick lucky for us we didnt see her that much except for when she brought our food and when she was in the corner dozing off,in all honesty I dont think she was sick and if she was I think she had way to much cough medicine if you know what I mean. I recommend you go to 419 west just for the food and hope you get a nice not in a rush not doped up server or do what I am going to do from now on just get it to go!!
Great service, great food - not overly busy (yet).
Visiting from out of town on a Saturday night in October 2006, my husband and I just happened to drive by 419West immediately past Tanglewood Mall. From the outside, we could not tell what we were in for. With very little wait, we were escorted to our table. We were dressed in jean and sweaters, but many people were in suits. We sat in the restaurant side, but there is a 'sports' bar area on the other side.
The food was great! My husband had a fillet with asparagus and mushrooms - he said it was one of the best ever. You could tell it was real Angus beef. I had a chicken penne pasta that was to die for. The flavors of garlic, mushrooms and roasted red peppers blended well with no taste overwhelming another.
The service was also terrific. Our waitress knew when to be at the table and when NOT to be at the table. She engaged in conversation when we included her and just did her job when my husband and I were talking.
She gave good recommendations when I was trying to choose between two entrees. I mentioned considering the chef's sorbet sampler for dessert. On her own, she came back and told me the flavors of the day (raspberry and mango). At dessert time, I mentioned the sorbet and the chocolate creme brulee. She recommended the creme brulee. She said you could get sorbet lots of places. She was right about the creme brulee. It was big enough for two and had a wonder taste and consistency. Not too rich. We ate the whole serving. It was amazing.
419West also has a great wine cellar. Our dinner/dessert and bottle of $30 wine came to about $100. Maybe not somewhere you go every week, but more than worth the cost for us. The only complaint - sometimes the cigarette smoke from the bar side made its way to our table. We'll go back again. Of course, by writing this, it will probably get busier and the no wait Saturdays will be over.
